What slot on Bovada can I win money on? How the games differ
We earn a commission if you open a Bovada account through links on this page.
Any real-money slot at Bovada can pay out, but none of them is more likely than the rest to leave you ahead. Every spin is decided by a random number generator, and every slot is designed to pay back less than players put in over time. Bovada also doesn’t publish a list of payout percentages for its games.
Why no slot is a better bet
Bovada’s help center says its casino results are determined by a random number generator (RNG), and its fairness page says the RNG produces numbers and symbols that “cannot be mathematically determined.” A slot that hasn’t paid in a while isn’t due to pay, and one that just paid isn’t any less likely to pay again.
A slot’s long-run payback is called its RTP, or return to player. A slot with a 96% RTP pays back $96 for every $100 wagered, averaged over millions of spins, and keeps the other $4. That $4 is the house edge. Over a few hundred spins, your own result can land far above or below the average. That’s how people win on slots, and it’s also why one good night on a game tells you nothing about whether it pays more than the others.
Bovada doesn’t list an RTP for any of its games in its help center or on its fairness page, and it doesn’t name an independent lab that tests them. If a game’s own info screen shows an RTP, that’s the figure to go by. A number quoted for the same game on another website may be for a different version, because game studios often release several RTP versions of one slot and let each casino choose which to run.
What actually differs between slots
Without published payback rates to compare, the differences worth knowing are in how a game pays and whether you can play it with a bonus.
How often it pays
This is volatility. Two slots with the same RTP can play very differently. A low-volatility game pays small amounts often, so your balance tends to drift down slowly. A high-volatility game can go a long stretch without paying much, then pay a large amount at once. That makes it easier to lose your whole session budget, though it’s also where the big wins come from.
The paytable inside each game gives you a rough idea of its volatility. A game whose top prizes are thousands of times your bet is usually a high-volatility one.
Jackpots
Bovada’s Hot Drop Jackpots come in three tiers:
- Hourly: a three- to four-figure jackpot that drops every hour, on the hour.
- Daily: drops once a day before midnight. Bovada’s FAQ gives the cutoff as 12:00 a.m. ET in one answer and 12:00 a.m. PT in another.
- Epic: a progressive jackpot that keeps growing until someone wins it, and can be won at any time.
Hot Drop games can’t be played with bonus money. Bovada’s FAQ doesn’t give amounts for the daily and Epic jackpots and points you to the jackpot widget and rules page in each game for the details.
Bovada’s help center says progressive jackpots are funded by a small part of every bet placed on the game, and when one is won, Bovada puts in a small amount to start it again. It also says they can be won at any bet size unless a game states otherwise.
Whether you can play it with a bonus
If you’ve taken a casino bonus, the game you pick decides how quickly you work through the rollover. Slots count 100% at Bovada, while table games count 20%, and video poker and most blackjack games 10%. Bovada also keeps a list of more than 700 titles that don’t count toward the rollover at all, so check it before you commit to a game.
While a bonus is active, your maximum bet in the casino is 20% of your deposit. Our guide to using Bovada bonus funds covers the rest of the rules.
Picking a game that fits your budget
Start with how much you’re willing to lose, using money you’ve already set aside for entertainment, and choose the game around that.
- On a small budget, a low-volatility game at a small bet gives you the most spins. $50 covers 200 spins at $0.25 if nothing hits, but only 50 at $1.
- If you’re playing for a jackpot or a big bonus round, expect most sessions to end without one, and pick a bet size that makes those sessions affordable.
- If you’re working through a bonus, pick a slot that counts toward the rollover and isn’t a Hot Drop game.
Once you’ve picked a game, our guide on how to win on Bovada slots covers what you can control while you play, from bet size to when to stop. If you do win, gambling winnings are taxable income in the US, even though Bovada says it doesn’t report them.
Bovada is an offshore casino. It claims licensing from the Union of the Comoros, no US state licenses it, and it isn’t available in 19 states and Washington, DC. Our Bovada review covers what that means for you.
