Why is Bovada not working? Common causes and fixes
Bovada’s help center names several reasons the site might not work for you. You may be in a state it blocks or connected through a VPN, your login may be locked or waiting on SMS validation, your browser cache may be out of date, or the sportsbook may be having a known issue. If none of those fit, check whether the site is down for everyone.

You’re in a restricted state or using a VPN
Bovada doesn’t accept players who live in Arizona, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Kansas, Louisiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Tennessee, Vermont, West Virginia or Washington, DC. Most of those states were added in 2024 and 2025, so a site that worked for you a year or two ago may not work now.
If you live in one of them and still have a balance, Bovada says to contact customer service to arrange a cryptocurrency withdrawal. Where Bovada is available has the full list and dates.
If you’re connected through a VPN, proxy or similar service, switch it off before you visit Bovada. Its terms treat using a service that masks your real location as fraud, with the account closed and the balance forfeited, and they don’t carve out VPNs you had on for another reason. You can’t sign in
Bovada blocks an account after 3 failed login attempts. Before you try again, check that you’re using the email registered to the account, that Caps Lock is off, and that there are no spaces before or after your email or password, which can happen when you copy and paste.
If you’ve forgotten your password, click Forgot Password in the login window and enter your registered email and date of birth. The reset link can land in spam, and the date of birth has to match the one on your account exactly.
Bovada may also ask you to validate your phone number by SMS, and an unfinished validation can stop you logging in until it’s done. You get 3 attempts to resend and enter the code. After that, you’ll need to contact customer service.
The site won’t load or looks wrong
Clear your browser cache
Bovada says old information in your browser cache can stop you signing in or viewing the site properly. In Chrome on a computer:
- Click the three-dot menu in the top right corner.
- Choose Delete browsing data. Bovada’s guide still uses the older name, Clear browsing data.
- Tick Cached images and files, untick everything else, and confirm.
In Firefox, open Settings, go to Privacy & Security, and click Clear Data under Cookies and Site Data. Set the time range to Everything, tick only Temporary cached files and pages, and click Clear. Bovada notes it can take a few minutes. Then reload bovada.lv.
Try another browser or device
Bovada has no app in the App Store or Google Play. Its mobile page says “there’s no download required,” and you play in your phone’s browser, so a problem on mobile is often a browser problem. If the site works on another device or browser, the trouble is with the first one.
Change your DNS
If pages still won’t load, your internet provider’s DNS may be the issue. Bovada’s poker help pages walk through switching to Google’s public DNS servers: 8.8.8.8 as the preferred server and 8.8.4.4 as the alternate. On Windows the setting is in your network adapter’s IPv4 properties. On a Mac it’s the DNS tab in your network settings.
The sportsbook shows a “system error”
Bovada says this message is usually about your selections or the connection between your device and its systems. When Bovada knows about a problem on its side, it often posts a blue banner at the top of the sportsbook, and it says it’s likely already working on a fix.
If there’s no banner and the error keeps coming back after several tries, contact customer service.
Your account has been disabled
If you can reach the site but your account is disabled, that’s a different problem. Bovada disables accounts for inactivity, when it needs to verify information, and for rule breaches. How to tell if Bovada is down for everyone
Bovada says that when an unexpected outage happens, it will tell players the details within 60 minutes. It also promises at least 24 hours’ notice before planned maintenance. It doesn’t say where those notices go.
To check:
- Look for a blue banner at the top of the sportsbook.
- Try another device or connection. If the site loads there, the problem is on your end.
- Check the Website Updates section of Bovada’s community forum at community.bovada.lv, where staff post public updates, and Bovada’s X account, @BovadaOfficial.
- Ask customer service. Bovada says chat requests are answered within minutes and emails to service@bovada.lv within 48 hours.
Bovada also says that if a player deserves “extra consideration” because of unexpected downtime, it will resolve that within 2 days. It doesn’t define what counts.
