Why did Bovada disable my account? Reasons and what to do

Bovada disables accounts for a handful of reasons it lists in its help center and terms: long inactivity, account details it needs to verify, a second account in your name or household, playing from a restricted state or through a VPN, and breaking bonus rules. Sometimes what looks like a disabled account is only a login lock you can clear yourself. If it isn’t, contact Bovada’s customer service with your 4-digit PIN and date of birth ready, since Bovada says those speed up re-enabling.

Locked out or disabled

A failed login can look like a closed account. Bovada blocks sign-ins after 3 failed attempts, and an unfinished SMS phone validation also stops you from logging in until you complete it.

Before you contact support, check these:

  • You’re using the email address registered to the account, with no stray spaces from copying and pasting.
  • Caps Lock is off. Passwords are case sensitive.
  • Your browser cache isn’t holding old data. Bovada suggests clearing it when you can’t sign in.
  • If you’ve forgotten your password, click Forgot Password on the login window and enter your registered email and date of birth.

If Bovada texts you a code, you get 3 tries to resend and enter it before you have to contact customer service. Our guide to why Bovada isn’t working covers other sign-in and loading problems.

Reasons Bovada gives for disabling accounts

Bovada’s help page on re-enabling accounts names three situations: inactivity, inconsistent information it needs to verify, and times it needs you to contact it about the account. Its terms of service and bonus rules add more. The terms also let Bovada close an account “for any reason, at any time in our sole discretion,” so a closure doesn’t have to match anything below.

Inactivity

Bovada’s help center says accounts can be disabled for inactivity. Separately, its terms treat an account with no deposit, withdrawal or bet for 18 months as dormant. Bovada emails the registered address at 17 months, and at 18 months the balance is set to zero.

Details that don’t match

Bovada asks for your full name, address, date of birth, email and phone number. It can check them with third-party verification services or against your government ID. If something doesn’t line up, Bovada may disable the account until it can verify your details.

Its KYC policy says that giving false information, or being unable or unwilling to provide documents, can get the account terminated and its winnings voided. If you’ve moved or changed your phone number, update your profile.

More than one account

Bovada allows one account per person and one per household. Its terms say duplicate accounts held by the same person are subject to immediate closure, and Bovada can seize any funds won through them.

The household rule means two people living at the same address aren’t supposed to hold separate accounts. Bonuses are limited the same way, to one per person, household, address, email, payment method, phone number, device and IP address.

Living in a restricted state

Bovada doesn’t accept players who live in Arizona, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Kansas, Louisiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Tennessee, Vermont, West Virginia or Washington, DC. Most were added in 2024 and 2025.

If you moved to one of these states, or yours was added while you still had money on the site, Bovada says to contact customer service to arrange a cryptocurrency withdrawal. Where Bovada is available has the full history.

Using a VPN or proxy

Bovada’s terms treat a VPN, proxy or similar service that hides your real location as fraud. The stated penalty is termination and forfeiture of the whole balance, deposits and winnings included. There’s more in our article on using a VPN with Bovada.

Bonus abuse and other betting rules

Bovada’s bonus terms spell out what it treats as abuse. The list includes using more than one account, cashing out to re-deposit with a bonus, placing equal or low-margin bets, using bonus money on excluded games, collusion, and masking your IP address. If Bovada suspects abuse, it can cancel bonuses and bonus winnings, withhold your balance or close the account.

The terms also say professional players, or anyone Bovada sees as abusing bonuses or wager limits, may have wagers voided. Betting on someone else’s behalf, or having someone else place bets for you, falls under the same fraud clause as VPN use.

A closure you asked for

If you asked Bovada to close your account because of a gambling problem, the terms say it stays closed permanently, with no option to reopen it.

How to get the account re-enabled

  1. Contact customer service by live chat or by email at service@bovada.lv. Bovada says it answers chats within minutes and emails within 48 hours, and support is available 24/7.
  2. Have your 4-digit PIN and date of birth ready. If you’ve also forgotten the email on the account, add your first and last name and the state of residence listed on it.
  3. Ask why the account was disabled and what Bovada needs from you. For a verification hold, that may mean photos of the front and back of your passport, driver’s license or ID card.
  4. Write down the date and what you were told, in case you need to escalate later.

If you think the decision is wrong

No US state licenses Bovada, so there’s no state gaming regulator to appeal to, and complaints go through Bovada itself. Ask in writing, at service@bovada.lv, for your complaint to be escalated to a Customer Service Supervisor. If that doesn’t settle it, email disputeresolution@bovada.lv. Bovada only accepts disputes filed at least 7 days and no more than 6 months after the problem first came up.

Include your account email, account number, date of birth, country and state of residence, phone number, the date of the issue, whether you’ve already contacted customer service, and what happened. Bovada says a dispute may be escalated “for external assessment or management by an authorized department” but doesn’t say who that is.

What not to do

  • Don’t open a new account while you wait. Duplicate accounts are subject to closure, and Bovada can seize funds won through them.
  • Don’t use a VPN to get back in. The terms treat it as fraud and let Bovada keep the balance.
  • Don’t give your login to anyone who offers to help. Bovada says it will never ask for your password or tell you to send funds to a specific player’s username, and it won’t ask you to open another account. Genuine Bovada emails come from the @bovada.lv domain.
